Caregiver Services   

 

New Communities Services provides excellent services through its caregiver support groups, caregiver lending library and resource center and caregiver lecture series.

Caregiver Lending Library and Resource Center:

Our caregiver lending library is located at the Sancta Maria's Windsor House.  If you would like more information on the library, please call Denise Thorud at 617-491-1815.

 

Caregiver Lecture Series:

Our Caregiver Lecture Series is in conjunction with the Cambridge Somerville Alzheimer's Partnership.  The Partnership holds a spring and fall event, both of which are free. Please check back here for more information about these caregiver events!

 

 

 

Past Lecture Series

 

Our November event is entitled Understanding Alzheimer's Disease: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment.  We are honored to have Dr. Stephen Pinals, Associate Director, Geriatric Psychiatry of the Cambridge Health Alliance as our speaker.  Dr. Pinals will be speaking on the progression of Alzheimer's Disease.

This free event will be held at the Macht Auditorium at the Cambridge Hospital, 1493 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.  Refreshments will be served.  Reservations are being accepted.

Update on Spring Series:

 

On May 23, 2007 the Cambridge Somerville Alzheimer's Partnership held their spring event at the Somerville Public Library.  This years topic was Alzheimer's Disease: Caregiver Tips on How to Cope and Communicate Effectively.  We were pleased to have Betsy Peterson, author of Voice's of Alzheimer's: Courage, Humor, Hope, and Love in the Face of Dementia speak about her personal experiences as a caregiver and Lorraine Kermond, Co-Chair of the Partnership speak about tips on how to cope.
